Jason's wife on Prison Visit

Scarleth describes her day:

"I was at La Modelo yesterday and arrived very early in the morning with Jabu, my brother, my mother and our friend Gabby.  Gabby took a bus from San Juan del Sur at 5:00 am and arrived at La Modelo around 7:00 am. I arrived afterwards with a bag and a basket with food.  We had to wait until 11:20 am.  They searched each of us and did not allow us to bring in the fruits that we brought for Jason.  They also did not let us bring in any of the medication (Tylenol & Tums).  THEY DIDN’T EVEN LET JABU BRING IN HIS STUFFED TIGER.  I left all these items with a lady in line.  She watched our things while went in for our visit.  I had to carry the basket on my head, Gabby carried the bag, and mom carried Jabu.  My brother was not allowed to go in .

We waited for Jason for about 20 minutes.  We ate chicken pasta, sandwiches, and drank juice. Jason had Jabu in his arms, and before we knew it, a guard told us our time was up.  Visitation was over. Jabu wanted to stay with Jason and wouldn’t let go.  We had to lie to Jabu to get him to let go of Jason and we left the visitation area.  Jabu was crying on our way out.  Jason was happy to see us, kiss us and hug us… and to finally have something to eat."

"My feelings go beyond anger and frustration..."

With help from his defense attorney last Wednesday,  Jason recorded a nearly five-minute message using a voice recorder, while at a courthouse for a hearing in the city of Rivas. He describes how it feels to have human, civil, and constitutional rights repeatedly violated.

Institutional Kidnapping. Please Read.

"Our heads were bagged..." - Jason describes his journey from prison to court house today.

Jason’s family is asking everyone to contact their elected representatives immediately to urge them to pressure the Nicaraguan government to release Jason.  The Nicaraguan Court, yesterday, made rulings in Jason’s case that have turned the wrongful detention into a full blown institutional kidnapping, with Judge Davila and Prosecutor Giscard Guillen leading the charge together.

Jason was taken from his cell at 4:15 a.m. to be driven to the courthouse with the other ten defendants in his case.  Jason said he was terrified when the defendants were handcuffed and their heads were “bagged” with their own shirts.  They were forced to sit in the truck with their heads between their knees for the two hour ride.
