Good News Finds Us This Holiday
Jason's case file has finally been received by the appeals court in Granada. It is the first step in the next chapter of our fight to free Jason.
This procedural development means that Jason's case is no longer in the hands of the convicting judge. It is now waiting to be reviewed by a three judge appellate panel. We do not have official word as to when the case will be up for review, but will continue to update our community as we receive new information.
This development is significant because the convicting judge had been stalling sending the appeal to Granada for months. In the last month, Jason's case saw a significant increase in support: the news of the Congressional letter in Jason's favor, continued news coverage in Seattle and Los Angeles, and an investigative report on News Channel 10 in Nicaragua, among others. We believe a combination of these factors helped move the case forward.
This would not have happened without your support. The more attention on this case, the greater our hopes are for a timely and fair appeal. Continue to write and visit your Congressional representatives, and continue to share this story with friends, family, and the news publications that you watch. You can also donate to help with Jason's mounting legal fees - including the costs of providing clean water and food to Jason every week.
Warm Regards This Holiday,
Janis, Jaime, Daisy, and the Free Jason P team
